Mid-Canterbury have defended the Meads Cup in provincial rugby's Heartland championship by beating Buller 36-13 in Westport.
Coach Glenn Moore says a central part of the team's success was their conditioning due to their desire to be the fittest team in the competition.
Moore congratulated the Buller team for the way they had galvanised the public in their region by going undefeated in the regular season.
