The retiring Australian cricket great Ricky Ponting says his final test was one of the toughest of his career.

The South African cricketers made it a less than memorable one for Ponting in Perth, dismissing the former Australian captain for single figures in both innings on their way to a series-winning third test win by 309 runs.

Ponting says he'd never been more nervous and says the pressure he put on himself to perform was immense.

Ponting says he contrinued his career after relinquishing the captaincy because he felt he still had something to offer.

Ponting finished his 17-year career as the second highest test run scorer behind India's Sachin Tendulkar with over 13,000 runs at an average of 51.85
