The International Cricket Council has dismissed a claim by the London Sunday Times newspaper that Indian bookmakers have been fixing the results of English county games and overseas fixtures.
The ICC's chief executive Haroon Lorgat has described as "baseless and misleading" the Sunday Times claim that the ICC was investigating last year's World Cup semi-final between India and Pakistan.
The newspaper claims it has uncovered evidence that tens of thousands of pounds was on offer to players to throw part or all of international matches, and it quoted an Indian bookmaker as saying that English county cricket was a "good new market" because matches were low-profile.
The allegations have come just weeks after the former Essex bowler Mervyn Westfield became the first English cricketer to be jailed for corruption, after admitting accepting money to fix a match against Durham in September 2009.
