Tauranga-based kiwifruit company Te Awanui Huka Pak is optimistic about its future, despite the damage caused to the industry by the vine-killing disease Psa.
The virulent strain Psa-V has been confirmed on almost 800 orchards since the disease was first discovered a year ago on a block of gold kiwifruit just south of Te Puke.
Most of the affected orchards are in the Te Puke area.
Te Awanui Huka Pak chief executive Hemi Rolleston says the company cut out three hectares of gold kiwifruit but still has more than 70 hectares of orchards which are free of the disease.
