Landcorp to sell big dairy farms

7:28 am on 12 November 2013

State-owned farming enterprise Landcorp is selling a large Bay of Plenty dairying operation as it focuses its attention on developing a network of new dairy farms in the central North Island.

Landcorp has been running what were originally five dairy farms at Wharere Road, near Te Puke, as two big units with sharemilkers.

Landcorp is aiming to double its milk production within three years, and chief executive Steven Carden says much of that will come from large scale dairy conversions underway on former forestry land it's leasing in the Wairakei area, near Taupo.

He says the Bay of Plenty farms don't fit in with those plans.

The farms are being sold by tender through Bayleys and buyers have the option of bidding for individual farms or the combined operation.
