Farmers to continue fight over ETS

8:35 pm on 28 November 2009

Federated Farmers says it will continue to fight the Government's amended emissions trading scheme despite it passing its final reading in Parliament.

The revised scheme will cost the average farmer $3,000 a year in carbon taxes by 2030 instead of $30,000 under the previous scheme. Farmers wanted agricultural emissions out of deal.

Federated Farmers' president and climate change spokesperson, Don Nicolson, says they're disappointed the carbon charges haven't been scrapped completely.

He says the fight is not over, as there will be review dates for the legislation.
