Carter rejects Greens claim of conflict of interest

Agriculture Minister David Carter says conflict of interest allegations made against him by the Green Party are incorrect.

The Greens have asked the Auditor-General to investigate a potential conflict of interest over a law change that replaces Canterbury's regional councillors with commissioners.

It also changes the process for getting rivers protected through water conservation orders.

The Greens say Mr Carter's farm, which takes water from the Hurunui River, could benefit if a proposed dam on the river is approved.

But David Carter has told Parliament, in a personal statement, that the clain is untrue. He says the consent to irrigate his property is historic and there will be no change in that if the Hurunui project proceeds.
