New Zealand's emissions trading scheme is reported to have made its first sale.
Broker OM Financial says 50,000 tonnes of emissions credits, known as NZUs, were sold recently for $20 a tonne.
OM Financial says the trade involved forestry credits in New Zealand being sold to a New Zealand company but would not name the parties to the deal.
The Ministry for the Environment also will not comment on what it calls a private contract, but says it expects other deals to follow.
The purchase was made despite the fact the Emissions Trading Scheme is being reviewed by the Government.
