The National Party has selected lawyer Sarah Dowie, 39, as its candidate for the Invercargill seat at this year's general election.

Ms Dowie was endorsed by a meeting of local party members Friday night.
National MP Eric Roy, who currently holds the Invercargill seat, is retiring.
