Auditor-General to probe Solid Energy

9:45 pm on 28 December 2013

The Auditor-General is to hold an inquiry into the management and oversight of Solid Energy.

The state-owned company has debts of almost $390 million and has closed many of its operations.

The Government has put together a restructuring package designed to keep Solid Energy afloat for another three years.

Auditor-General Lynn Provost has agreed to a request from the Labour Party for an inquiry and says she hopes to have her findings ready in February.

She says there are still some unanswered questions about the company's management and governance.

The review will cover the period from July 2008 until June this year.
