Police fear for abducted girl's safety

7:34 pm on 15 July 2008

Police say they fear for the safety of five-year-old Cina Ma, who was abducted by a masked man outside her home at Albany on Monday.

Cina and her six-year-old cousin were playing outside her home in Corricvale Way, Harrowglen, when she was bundled into a silver car by a man about 12.30pm on Monday.

Detective Inspector Steve Wood says police believe the abduction was not random but a premeditated act. Mr Wood says there are concerns for her safety.

Earlier, in a statement issued on Tuesday morning, police said their number one priority was getting her back.

Public plea

At a news conference on Tuesday afternoon, the family made a public plea for her safe return, saying they were heartbroken by the abduction.

The girl's aunt, Hong Zhou, who was flanked by Cina's mother, Jin Zhou, described her as a happy girl and said the family did not want her harmed.

She asked anyone with knowledge of the abduction to contact police.

Cina's mother was tearful and appeared drained, and chose not to speak to the media.
