9:21 pm on 13 December 2011

A man has been sentenced to life in prison in the High Court in Auckland for murdering his flatmate with a high-powered air rifle.

Glenn Michael McDonald was convicted of murdering Keith Shane Kahi after shooting him seven times when he tried to flee their flat in May last year.

The judge imposed an 11-year non-parole period.

The case is one of two shootings which prompted the Government to make it illegal to own a high-power air rifle without a firearms license.
