7:56 am on 2 December 2011

Twelve Auckland police officers are to receive awards in recognition of their service on Friday, including some who are being commended for bravery.

Three officers and three members of the public will receive a Commissioner's Certificate of Appreciation for their professionalism and bravery when dealing with a suicidal man for several hours on the Sky Tower's Skywalk in September last year.

Other awards include a District Commander's Commendation for a constable who dealt with a depressed and intoxicated woman near railway tracks in Glen Innes late at night.

The constable will be recognised for her compassion, professionalism and negotiating skills.

The bi-annual awards ceremony will be held at Auckland Town Hall.

It will be attended by Police Minister Judith Collins, Deputy Commissioner Viv Rickard and several members of the Auckland City District Police management team.
