The United States Coast Guard in American Samoa has released a New Zealand-flagged fishing boat that was detained for safety deficiencies in Pago Pago.
Lieutenant Steven Claskey says the Ocean Breeze was cleared to leave port on Friday after a follow up inspection.
The vessell had been detained for flaws in the documentation of pollution
prevention equipment and for inoperative machinery.
Radio New Zealand International reports it also spilled nearly 2000 litres of oil into Pago Pago Harbor and was fined by the Port Administration.
Lieutenant Claskey says the Coast Guard is satisfied the Ocean Breeze has corrected the deficiencies.
