The New Zealand Olympic Committee says mounting a bid for a future Commonwealth Games is now more likely to happen.
The committee had hoped to launch a bid for the 2018 Commonwealth Games, but the Government early last year decided the $500 million cost was too high.
However, both Prime Minister John Key and Rugby World Cup Minister Murray McCully have said the rugby tournament has proven New Zealand could host a successful Commonwealth Games.
NZOC secretary-general Kereyn Smith told Morning Report the Auckland supercity is now in place and a good deal of infrastructure has been upgraded for the Rugby World Cup.
She says the next possible year New Zealand could hold the Commonwealth Games is 2022.
