The Silver Ferns have suffered a heartbreaking one-point loss in the final of the world netball championships in Singapore.
Their long-standing rivals Australia won in extra time with a last-gasp goal.
The Silver Ferns had the upper hand in the first half of the match, leading by seven points at one stage.
However Australian coach Norma Plummer made some fruitful changes, bringing Caitlin Bassett on as goal shoot.
New Zealand's defenders found it hard to shut down the tall shooter, and the tables turned in the third quarter.
It was goal for goal in the fourth, and with scores equal at 46-46 at full-time the game went into extra time.
New Zealand had opportunities to inch ahead in the dying moments but when the final whistle blew the Australians were one ahead, with the final score 58-57.
New Zealand coach Ruth Aitken said a netball match can change within a very short period of time, and it was an amazing game.
