Changes are being made to commuter rail services in Wellington to help deal with over-crowded trains during peak travel times.
KiwiRail says that from Monday, a surcharge of $1 for the Wairarapa peak time service will be removed for Upper Hutt commuters, giving them a greater choice of trains at standard fares.
Buses will also replace some trains on the Melling line over the peak period to free carriages for the busiest trains.
On Tuesday, ticket collection and single ticket sales will take place on the platform for passengers using the Kapiti line southwards, from Paremata to Wellington.
KiwiRail says the changes will remain in place for the next eight weeks.
