A person has been seriously injured after a crash on State Highway 1 in North Otago.
Police say the crash involving a truck and a car happened at Baghdad Creek, just south of Hampden, just before 5am on Thursday.
Senior Sergeant Brian Benn says the crash caused a fire and one person has been flown to Dunedin Hospital with serious injuries.
The crash closed both lanes on State Highway 1. One lane has since reopened.
Mr Benn says the backlog of cars has been cleared and both lanes should be clear by about midday.
