The body of the New Zealand soldier killed in an accident in Afghanistan has been flown to Germany and is expected to arrive in New Zealand next week.

Private Kirifi Mila died when a Humvee rolled down a steep bank in north-eastern Bamyan province on Tuesday.

Private Mila's family has issued a statement, describing him as a kind, loving person who took pride in his work.

They say they're thankful to the Defence Force for its support.

The two soldiers who were injured in the crash have been flown to the United States Military Hospital in Germany.

The sergeant is in a stable condition and the private, who was admitted to the intensive care unit, is expected to move to a general ward in the next two days.
