Warning tape may put back along new bus route

Wellington City Council says it may have to put warning tape back in Manners Mall after another person was hit by a bus in the former pedestrian mall.

A woman was hit by as she stepped out between two other buses at a bus stop.

She is the fourth person to be hit in the two months since the bus lanes were opened.

Councillor Andy Foster told Summer Report that people tend to operate a little on auto pilot when they are moving about areas they are familiar with.

He said many people will have to change the habit of a lifetime and adapt to buses using the former mall.

Mr Foster said warning tape would be useful until people get used to the buses.
