The 100th anniversary of Government House has been marked in Wellington.
About 200 people, including MPs and Mayors, watched as Governor General Sir Anand Satyanand unveiled a plaque that commemorates the building's history.
Sir Anand said he was pleased to see the refurbishment of Government House nearly completed.
The 4200 square metre stately home has been undergoing extensive renovations since 2008, at a cost of more than $40 million.
Cabinet Minister Peter Dunne said the renovations should preserve the building for another 100 years.
The Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet says most of the earthquake strengthening has been finished, but the building's furnishings are yet to be installed.
The refurbishment includes a new apartment for the Governor General and offices for his staff.
The work is due to be finished at the beginning of 2011.
