Auckland police have used a taser to arrest a man who they say set fire to his family home and threw accelerant over officers.
The incident happened at about midday on Saturday at a house on Simon Ellice Drive, Glenfield, on the North Shore.
Senior Sergeant Mark Fergus says a number of calls were received from neighbours and occupants of the house, saying the man was assaulting family members and damaging property.
When officers arrived, he says, the man lit a fire inside the house and another at the back of the property.
Police say the taser was used when the man refused to give up his lighter.
A 25-year-old man is due to appear in the North Shore District Court on Monday on a number of charges relating to the incident.
