A man has been arrested after two bodies were found in a house in Hokitika on the West Coast.
A 42-year-old local man has been charged with two counts of murder and will appear in the Greymouth District Court on Wednesday.
West Coast area commander John Canning says police received a call about 3pm on Tuesday advising them of a shooting at a house in Fitzherbert Street.
A distressed man met officers outside the house where the bodies of two men, believed to be locals, were discovered.
A scene examination of the house will be carried out on Wednesday. The bodies will then be taken to Christchurch for a post-mortem.
No further details about the dead men will be available until their next-of-kin have been notified.
