A man has appeared in court in relation to the death of a woman shot on Friday in Warkworth, north of Auckland.
The woman, aged about 20, was taken to the Kowhai medical centre in Warkworth with gunshot wounds on Friday afternoon.
A 20-year-old roading worker appeared at the North Shore District Court on Saturday charged with possession of a firearm in a public place. He was remanded in custody till a further court appearance next week.
The police say the man, who was in a relationship with the woman, had taken her to the medical centre from her nearby home to seek medical help. It is believed she was dead on arrival at the centre.
A post-mortem was being carried out on Saturday.
Inspector Keith Brady says officers are assessing the results of inquiries near the house where the woman lived.
The names of both the man and the dead woman have been suppressed to allow time for family members to be notified.
