Taihape is being restored as a stop on the Overlander train between Auckland and Wellington.
The central North Island town was dropped from the timetable in 2005 due to falling passenger numbers, but will be back on the map from Friday after renewed interest in the regions.
A Tranz Scenic spokesperson Nigel Parry says passenger numbers on the Overlander are up, and the return of peak daily services have been brought forward to meet demand.
He says the Taihape community has also played its part in the decision by putting a lot of effort into making itself a destination where people would want to stay.
