Police say a mental health patient who went missing from Christchurch's Hillmorton Hospital has been found.
They said 38-year-old Kieran Doody had returned to the hospital.
Te Whatu Ora Waitaha - Canterbury interim operations director Jo Gibbs said hospital staff alerted police as soon as they realised he had escaped.
"This patient was on escorted ground leave around Hillmorton [on Thursday] ... when he left the site," she said.
"As is always the case when something unexpected happens with a patient in our care we will be reviewing the circumstances of this event."
