Woman on trial accused of leaving baby to drown

A woman accused of letting her baby drown has told the High Court in Auckland that she was experiencing major personal problems at the time.

The 29-year-old is charged with the murder of her 13-month-old son by leaving him alone in the bath in November 2009.

The woman, who has name suppression, has described her battle with depression, the domestic violence she suffered and how she tried to seek help from various doctors.

Her two children were eventually taken into the care of Child, Youth and Family.

She says two days after her children were returned she filled the bath and left her son alone in it for 15 minutes.

She says she thought he was strong enough to sit up.
