10:29 am on 19 May 2009

A serious crash caused major delays to motorists in the Bay of Plenty on Tuesday morning.

The police say a car and a van collided shortly before 6.30am on State Highway 2 in Te Puke and traffic is backed up to Papamoa, near Tauranga.

The wrecked vehicles have been cleared but a large spill of fuel remains on the road and traffic was still down to one lane several hours later.

Diversions were in place at Cameron Road and Dunlop Road, via Raymond Avenue.
