The Electricity Commission is expected to approve two proposals by Transpower to improve electricity reliability in Wellington and Wairarapa.
The projects are worth almost $27 million.
This includes a new $9.5 million transformer at the Wilton substation, which the commission says is a relatively small upgrade.
Conductors on the existing Woodville - Mangamaire and Masterton line would also be replaced, at a cost of $17.4 million.
Work in both areas would be completed by 2011.
