A man has died while trying to repair a stricken boat in the Waitemata Harbour.
Police were notified of the incident at about 1.30am on Wednesday, after the boat struck a rock near Rangitoto Island.
Police say his clothing became entangled in the driveshaft, trapping him while he was trying to see what the damage was and make repairs.
Sea water was leaking into the engine bay at the time.
The death is being referred to the Coroner.
Three people were on the boat, which had to be towed to shore by the police vessel, Deodar.
