Road closures will be in place for most of the day as Dunedin police investigate a suspicious fire at an abandoned rest home.
Emergency services were alerted to a large fire at the disused Glamis Hospital in Mornington at about 4am.
Seven engines turned up to find the three-storey building well ablaze.
The building was seriously damaged.
The fire is being treated as suspicious and fire and emergency staff are likely to be at the scene all morning.
Police said road closures at the following intersections were likely to be in place most of the day:
- High Street and Queens Drive
- Serpentine Avenue and Queens Drive
- Montpellier Street and Alva Street
- Serpentine Avenue and William Street
Police urged drivers to be patient.
