The Government is to spend another $20 million on roads in Whangarei to ease congestion and boost the economy there.
The Transport Agency announced last week it will start work in the new year on completion of the State Highway One Kamo bypass.
The agency says it has another five highway improvement projects planned for Whangarei.
They include widening Western Hills Drive to create four lanes between Selwyn and Fourth Avenue and also Tarewa Road to State Highway 14.
Both areas are bottlenecks for traffic moving in and out of Whangarei. Work will begin this summer.
