Wellington is in first place on a list of the best places in New Zealand to bring up a family. The Queenstown-Lakes district comes second.
The ASB Top Spots survey looked at 50 territorial authorities and rated them according to criteria such as housing affordability, unemployment, the number of young people in the area and the number of GPs.
Queenstown mayor Clive Geddes says it is impossible to accurately compare one area with another.
Mr Geddes says the survey is of "interest value" only. He says caring families and community investment in young people make districts good places to bring up children.
