A 10-year-old boy was killed in a dirt bike accident in Whataroa on the West Coast of the South Island on Saturday.
The incident occurred at about 4pm, when the boy was riding along a stop bank with friends near his home.
Emergency services were unable to revive him and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The matter has been referred to the coroner.
