Marine farmers look forward to reform

2:31 pm on 11 April 2010

The aquaculture industry says a simpler process for gaining and renewing marine farm space is a priority in reforms planned by the Government.

Details are expected to be announced soon, as part of a Government pledge to help aquaculture grow into a billion dollar a year business by 2025.

Aquaculture New Zealand says after several failed attempts at revitalising the industry, the expected new reforms are crucial.

Environmentalists say they're worried about a big increase in marine farm space, and about moves for more cage fish farming.
