A man who raped a teenager could be detained on prison grounds indefinitely, after Corrections applied for the first ever public protection order.

A High Court judge has ruled that Clinton Jacob Wilson will remain in Christchurch Men's prison while the Corrections application is considered.
Wilson was sentenced to 14 years in prison in 2002 for raping a 13-year-old girl, just 10 days after he was released from prison for assault.
Public protection orders were introduced at the end of last year, but this was the first time an order has been requested.
Corrections national commissioner Jeremy Lightfoot says if the application was granted, Wilson would have to remain in a secure facility on prison grounds, even after his sentence ends.
Mr Lightfoot said the orders gave Corrections an added level of monitoring for offenders who had served their sentence but still posed a very high risk of sexual or violent offending.
