Dunedin show marks Battle of Britain

12:44 pm on 21 September 2014

An airshow was held above Dunedin this morning to mark the 74th anniversary of the Battle of Britain.

It was organised to acknowledge the closure of the Otago Brevet Club, which was begun following World War II.

The event organiser, Paul Ward, said pilots and aero-enthusiasts from across Otago and as far away as Fiordland took part in the flyover at 11am.

He said 12 planes, a Tigermoth and a jet-ranger helicopter took part.

"I decided I didn't want this legacy to die - to see these chaps off in a notable way so they won't be forgotten."

A formal dinner was to be held for the Brevet Club members and the airmen who performed in the flyover.
