Police are searching for a man in a van who tried to snatch a girl off the street while she was on her paper run in Mount Maunganui earlier today.
The 12-year-old was delivering newspapers in Bain Street when she walked past a white van parked near the intersection with Riverton Road.
Police said the Maori man, aged about 50, grabbed her by the arm, but she ran to a nearby house and police were called.
They said she was not physically harmed but they wanted to talk to anyone who saw the incident, the man, or the white van in the area.
