Interviews for volunteers have been taking place in areas that will be hosting Cricket World Cup matches.

The event takes place in Australia and New Zealand from February next year.

Several thousand volunteers are required to work in accreditation centres, as well as helping out on match days.

Interviews were held in Auckland, Nelson and Dunedin on Saturday.

The head of the New Zealand Cricket World Cup organisation, Therese Walsh, says there has been a lot of interest from the public.

She says there's already a large volunteer base following the Rugby World Cup in 2011.

She says a second round of interviews will take place in the coming weeks.
