Trampers warned of storm-hit tracks

Trampers have become lost after fallen trees blocked tracks in the storm-hit Nelson region, prompting police to issue a warning.

An Austrian woman was caught out in the Mount Angelus area in the Nelson Lakes after she discovered her route out was impassable due to uprooted trees.

Another overseas tramper had to be rescued after becoming lost for three-and-a-half days in Mount Richmond Forest Park.

Senior Constable David Cogger said the US student had a map but no compass and could not find the track.

Mr Cogger advised trampers to check track conditions before setting out.
