Police investigating the violent death of a Wellington woman believe someone broke into the crime scene, leaving behind a religious themed note.
Mei Fan was found dead in her Miramar house in November last year, after being fatally stabbed.
Police say since the forensic scene examination was completed, someone has forced entry into the property, possibly between 3 and 17 December.
They say a small red card with a religious verse printed on it was left next to a photo of the 37-year-old mother of two, who was dead in her Miramar home on 10 November.
Detective Senior Sergeant John van den Heuvel said on Friday it is a bizarre and brazen thing to do and police can't rule out the possibility the killer has returned to the scene. He says he has not encountered anything like this before.
A post-mortem confirmed that Ms Fan died of multiple injuries consistent with a violent and brutal attack.
