Lower Hutt factory jobs to go

6:47 am on 15 February 2014

Thirty two people are set to lose their jobs from a packaging company's base in Wellington.

Charta Packaging has announced the jobs at its Lower Hutt factory will be shifted to a new business unit in Auckland.

The Engineering, Printing & Manufacturing Union said the losses were a real blow, especially considering the packaging company is profitable.

Union organiser Mark James said the only positive is that the jobs will remain in New Zealand.

Charta Packaging said it remains committed to being a Wellington-based company.
