The Fire Service in Christchurch was kept busy on Wednesday evening. More than 24mm of rain fell between 6pm and 7pm in the north and west of the city, causing flooding.
Fire crews were called to about 10 properties where some garages were flooded, but say no houses were threatened.
The MetService said the rain was very localised: other parts of Christchurch had between 5mm and 7mm during the 60-minute period.
