Police are appealing for help in identifying a man who was seen falling off rocks into the water at Whiritoa beach, south of Whangamata.
Senior Sergeant Gael Mockford says the man was on the rocks for about an hour before he was seen going into the water at about 5pm on Sunday.
She says anyone who knows about the incident or who knows someone is missing should get in touch with the police.
