A man shot in the chest in the Auckland suburb of Kelston is in a stable condition.
Brent Dudley received a single gunshot wound on Friday night and was rushed to hospital with serious injuries.
He is the father of Stephen Dudley, who died after a fight at a school rugby practice in June this year.
A .22 calibre rifle was recovered from the scene where Mr Dudley was shot.
A 39-year-old woman has appeared in court charged with assaulting him.
Two teenagers charged with the manslaughter of Stephen Dudley, who was 15, will face trial in February 2014.
