An HIV support group says more people might come forward now that name suppression has lapsed for a man accused of infecting at least five people with HIV.
The man, Glen Mills, 40, appeared in the Auckland District Court on Friday morning facing 14 charges relating to infecting and exposing people in Auckland and Wellington to the virus.
Six complainants are men and one is a woman. Five of the seven have HIV.
Bruce Kilmister, chief executive of Body Positive, an HIV peer support organisation, says that the complainants are very young. The charges have affected a lot of lives, he says, and there may be others who need to have themselves tested for the virus.
He's urging anyone who had sex with Mr Mills to go for a test.
The accused was remanded in custody for a pre-trial hearing in July.
