Council confident spillage contained

Waikato Regional Council is confident diesel leaking from a partly submerged boat in a Coromandel bay has been contained.

The renovated trawler was found leaking in Wyuna Bay on Tuesday. The council says there could be up to 300 litres of fuel on board.

Absorbent booms have been set up to prevent the fuel spreading and a diver has plugged the leak.

Spokesperson Dave Lovatt said it appears a small amount of fuel has been spilled.

He said the boat will remain in the water until next week, when the remaining fuel will be removed.
