Joyce brought in to sort Novopay out

Prime Minister John Key has effectively put the providers of the Novopay payroll system on notice.

The $30 million system, developed by Australian company Talent2, has been plagued with thousands errors since it was introduced in August 2012, with underpayments, overpayments or no payments at all to some school staff.

Mr Key said on Tuesday he has asked Economic Development Minister Steven Joyce to take on the responsibility for sorting the problems out as soon as possible.

"One thing we know about Steven Joyce is, he is thorough and meticulous and can be tough. So if I were the providers of that system, I'd be on notice."
