Ministry to give teachers an early pay at Christmas

8:08 pm on 1 December 2012

Most school staff will be receiving their Christmas pay early, in a bid to allow any problems to be dealt with before the holiday.

The pay day would normally fall during Christmas week, but has been brought forward to Friday 21 December.

And about 10,000 staff - including support staff and teachers on fixed term contracts - will be paid on 12 December.

Education Ministry officials say if any employee is underpaid or not paid, the school can make an advance and the Ministry will reimburse it, or the Ministry can make the payment to staff directly.

Thousands of staff have been incorrectly paid since the new Novopay payroll system was introduced in August.
