Crime spree trial begins

The trial of five people accused of being involved in a crime spree in Wellington last year began on Monday.

Margaret O'Neill, Martin Hogan, Stephen O'Neill, Lance O'Neill and Edwin Holtham all pleaded not guilty to a number of charges including theft, receiving stolen goods, and throwing a molotov cocktail at a police station in Karori.

A jury of six men and six women was selected in Wellington District Court on Monday to hear evidence from 53 witnesses.

The trial is expected to take up to three weeks.
